If you’ve been here for a while, you’ll notice things look different.
The Hoodie Marketer has always lived as a blog section inside The Startup Marketing Playbook website. That made sense when it started, a blog attached to a book, a place to keep writing alongside the content that was already there. But over time it started to feel like the wrong home. The blog had grown into something with its own identity, its own audience, its own direction. It was sitting inside a structure that no longer described what it actually was.
So I rebuilt it. The Hoodie Marketer now has its own home, it’s own brand, and lets me do more than before.
What’s here now
The blogs are still here, same content, same approach, same attempt to write about marketing in a way that’s actually useful rather than impressive. That’s realistic, especially for marketers working with lean teams and leaner budgets. If you’ve been reading for a while, nothing changes on that front. New posts go up weekly, covering lean marketing teams, strategy, leadership, and what it actually looks like to do this job rather than describe it from a distance.
What’s new is everything around the writing. This site now reflects the full picture of what I’m working on (well most of it!).
The books. The Startup Marketing Playbook turns one next month. It was written for founders and marketers building something from scratch or scaling something that is growing quickly, and the response to it has been one of the things I’m genuinely most proud of. If you haven’t read it, it’s here.
And there’s a second book coming. I’m not ready to share everything yet, but I can tell you the title: 16 Ways to Kill Your Startup. It’s for founders and early-stage teams who are making decisions that feel reasonable in the moment and turn out to be expensive, and for the marketers working with them. More detail coming soon. If you want to know when it drops, you can register and you’ll be the first to hear.
Working together. The site now has a proper section for how we (or someone you know) can work together. Whether that’s consulting or fractional CMO support, speaking at your event or on your podcast, or running a workshop. I’ve been doing this kind of work quietly alongside everything else for a while. This is just making it easier to find.
Why now
The honest answer is that this has been the plan for a while and I’ve been busy juggling all the balls. I’ve been experimenting alot and AI has allowed me to start to bring to life, a lot of ideas that were sitting in the top drawer and I’ve been on quite a journey. The Startup Marketing Playbook anniversary felt like the right moment. A year in, both things deserved to stand on their own rather than one living under the other. And with a second book coming soon, there’s a home for that too!
The blog was always bigger than a section of another site. The Hoodie Marketer has always been the main thing. The site now says that clearly, which is overdue.
What to expect going forward
Same writing, same voice, same stubbornness about only publishing things that are actually worth reading. The blog will keep covering what I’m working through, what I’m learning, and the stuff I wish someone had told me earlier in my career.
The difference is that it’s all in one place now. The books, the ways to work together, the writing. If you’ve been following the blog and you’re curious about any of it, it’s there, all in one place, with the click of a few mouse buttons.
Thanks for being here. I appreciate your support and if you know anyone that may benefit, send them a link 😉.
